ORCHESTRA E CORO DEL TEATRO DELL’OPERA
Production of the Teatro dell’Opera
In order to have a more faithful oriental approach Giacomo Puccini paid alot of attention to detail, contacting a famous japanese actress Sada Yakko and the japanese ambassador's wife, to give him minute details of customs, costumes and habits of a popoluation that fascinated him so much. Despite such attention to Madama Butterfly it was a huge flop when it opened on the 17th of february 1904 at La Scala in Milan, However it was welcomed with enthusiasm at the Teatro Grande of Brescia after a short three months reworking. Puccini continued to rework the score and particulars up till 1907 until its success at Covent Garden London in 1905 and the Opéra-Comique di Parigi in 1906. The first time Madama Butterfly took the stage in Caracalla was the 29th of june 1947. Director Vincenzo Belezza, and principal performers Adriana Guerrini (Madam Butterfly) Antonio Annaloro (Pinkerton) Fernanda Cadoni (Suzuki).Among the stars of following performances we can remember: Onelia Fineschi, Rina Gigli, Elena Rizzieri, Orietta Moscucci, Mietta Sighele, Maria Chiara, Antonietta Stella.
